Making It Work On A Single Income (Jessica's Hurdle)
I would like to share with as many people as possible what an amazing experience I've had with your organization, Help Over Hurdles. I got a divorce unexpectedly two years ago, and since then I have been struggling to pay my bills and keep my house on a single income. I work for a nonprofit organization and, while I love what I do, I have had to take out loans to supplement my income and I feel like I continue to bury myself in a hole of debt.
One bill in particular came out of nowhere and it was for over $200. It was right around the holidays and I did not have any funds to allocate to this bill. I felt completely helpless until I discovered this organization. I have gotten assistance from other agencies before, but it was always a long drawn out process with lots of hoops to jump through. Help Over Hurdles literally handled the whole process over text message and within days of applying (which was also super easy and quick), my bill was paid in full. They went above and beyond what they normally "gift" to help me, and I could not be more grateful to me. I would recommend this organization to anyone in my shoes. You guys are awesome!! |
Unexpected Car Repairs (Sherry's Hurdle)
My name is Sherry I support adults with intellectual disabilities. I needed two tires for my car since I had a nail in one and a leak in the other. I use my car daily to transport the people I support to different activities- doctors appointments, shopping, out to eat, to hang out with family and friends. If it wasn’t for the help paying for new tires, the people I support would not have been able to do the things they enjoy doing. I applied for help through Help Over Hurdles to help me get the tires I needed. It was an easy process and I was approved for help within 24 hours. The HoH team was always so available when I had questions. Help Over Hurdles was such a blessing to my family and I.

Being There During Father's Cancer (Ashley's Hurdle)
My name is Ashley. My father Kenneth Carpenter passed away this past April. I have been my father's primary care giver for the past 7 years as he battled cancer. We thought that he had beat it the first time. It was such a shock after being cancer free for almost 7 years he was now diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. He got sick so fast and none of his treatments were working. When I got to the point that I was scared to leave him for even a short time had to come to the hard decision to quit working. Dad quickly got worse and ended up in ICU. He was moved to Indy where they could better take care of his condition. I found that the trips back and forth to Indy were taking a toll on us financially.

One day I got a call from my Q.E.S. Jessica. She told me that I should sign up for Help Over Hurdles. She said that she had talked to them and she thought that they might be able to help. At this point I was starting to feel desperate. I sat on my phone at the gas station and filled out the application. The very next day I received a phone call that brought me to tears. Help Over Hurdles had reviewed my application and had decided to do the full amount. I just sat there and cried. They made arrangements to drive to me so I didn't have to leave my father. My father passed away a couple weeks later. But I was able to spend everyday with him thanks to the compassion of others. I will never forget the generosity of others and the wonderful program Help Over Hurdles.
